Questions people ask
Why do prices differ so much by state and county?
Each insurer files its own rates by rating area, and the number of insurers competing in a county drives prices more than anything else. Rural counties with one insurer are usually the most expensive.
Are these the prices I would actually pay?
They are the full monthly premiums for the plans sold in each county, age-rated the way the Marketplace does it. Most people who qualify for a premium tax credit pay far less, so enter your income in the tool to see your own number.
What about private plans?
Private (non-ACA) plans are priced by age, sex and health, not by income. For healthy households above the tax-credit limit they are often the cheaper route; for anyone with a credit or ongoing conditions the Marketplace usually wins. The tool shows both side by side.
